W.O. splits with G.R. Catholic Central

W.O. played GR Catholic Central this evening and lost the first game 12-2 but came back and took the night cap 3-2 on a stellar pitching performance by Junior Amy VanderStoep. Vanderstoep came in in relief in the first game to throw four innings giving up one hit, one earned run and 6 strike outs. In the night cap, VanderStoep pitched the complete game win giving up 2 hits, one earned run while striking out 8 and walking 2. Offensively, Freshman Heather Essenburg had two singles with one of them giving WO the go-ahead run in the second game with two outs in the 4th inning.


West Ottawa is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Jenison for an OK Red double header.

West Ottawa wins two over Holland Christian

On Monday evening (4/19) the Varsity softball team hosted a home double header against Holland Christian. The Panthers won the first game with a score of 10-6. Junior, Amy VanderStoep came in in relief to pick up the win. Sophomore, Elaine Whitbeck collected 3 hits in the game with two singles and a triple. Hannah Goble and Christina Hanchett each add two hits.

In the nightcap, Sophomore Hannah Goble earned the win by pitching a complete game. The panthers were down 2-0 going into the 4th inning with two outs when Elaine Whitbeck drew a walk and then freshman, Heather Essenburg followed with a 2 run home run to tie the score at 2-2. In the bottom of the sixth inning West Ottawa broke open the score by forcing 5 runs across the plate before getting an out. Junior, Amy VanderStoep ripped a triple to score Whitbeck with the go-ahead run. The final score was 7-2. In game two, Sophomore Aileen Jackson went 4-4 with 3 singles and a double while Heather Essenburg, Breanna Butcher and Christina Hanchett each added two hits.
West Ottawa opens OK Red conference play on Thursday with a home double header against Hudsonville.

West Ottawa Loses in Martin E. Ball Championship Game

Saturday, April 17...The West Ottawa Varsity Softball team was down 7-3 going into the 5th inning of the 1st game of the Martin E. Ball softball tournament before scoring 5 runs in the 5th inning with the highlight being a bases loaded triple by freshman, Taylor Dean. In the 6th inning the Panthers added 3 more runs and finished with an 11-7 win. Freshman Heather Essenburg lead the offensive attack with 4 hits (3 singles and a double) and 3 RBI's. Fellow freshman, Taylor Dean collected 4 RBI's in the game. Junior Katelyn Klinesteker also contributed with two key singles. Sophomore Hannah Goble picked up the win in relief.

In the championship game, WO faced Hamilton and Hamilton won the game 10-0. Hamilton's pitcher, senior, Hannah Klenk controlled the game from the start and only gave up two hits while striking out 9 of our batters and walking only one. Started Hannah Goble took the pitching loss for the Panthers.
West Ottawa is back in action on Monday with a home double header against Holland Christian and then opens league play on Thursday with a home double header against Hudsonville. All games begin at 4:30 pm.

West Ottawa takes two from GR Union

The West Ottawa Varsity Softball team (3-1-1) beat GR Union two times at home on Wednesday, April 14th. West Ottawa won both games on Stellar pitching performances from both of their starting pitchers. In the opener the Panthers won 6-0 and sophomore pitcher Hannah Goble pitched 7 shutout innings while giving up two singles and striking out 12 while walking none. Leading the offensive attack in game #1 was sophomore Elaine Whitbeck with two singles and sophomore Breanna Butcher with two singles.


In the nightcap, West Ottawa won 10-0 when the game was called due to the run rule in the 5th inning. Junior Amy VanderStoep had a no hitter through 4 and two thirds inning before giving up an infield single. VanderStoep pitched the complete game shutout allowing one hit, while striking out 11 and walking 3. Sophomore Aileen Jackson had three hits in the 2nd game while Goble, Butcher and Whitbeck each had two hits. Junior Katelyn Klinesteker and Butcher and Goble also had back to back to back doubles in the 1st inning which helped the Panthers jump out with the early lead.

West Ottawa is back in action on Saturday as they host the Martin E. Ball Softball Tournament at West Ottawa with WO playing Hartford and the first pitch being thrown at 10:00 am.

W.O. wins one and ties one against Muskegon Reeths Puffer

After returning from an awesome team trip to TN for spring training, the Panthers went on the road to Muskegon Reeths Puffer on Tues., 4/13 to play a double header. The Panthers won the first game 9-2 against an outstanding pitching performance by sophomore Hannah Goble. Goble allowed 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1. She also helped offensively with two hits and an RBI. Other players with two hits were sophomore Elaine Whitbeck, and freshman Heather Essenburg.


The nightcap was called due to darkness with the teams being tied at 6-6. Reeths Puffer jumped out to an early 6-2 lead but the Panthers kept chopping away and tied it 6-6 before the game was called. Junior Katelyn Klinesteker lead the offensive attack with two singles.

West Ottawa now stands at 1 win, 1 loss and 1 tie early in the season.

WO is back in action today with a home double header starting at 4:30 pm against Grand Rapids Union.
